11th November 2006 (KUALA LUMPUR): A goal in each half gave SRA Integrasi from Selangor a 2-1 win over SK Othman Shawal from Melaka for them to claim the inaugural title of the 100PLUS Super Cup Under-12 champions schools title at the SMK Victoria this evening.
Khairul Azmin was on target as early as the fifth minute but a lob from Rohaizat Jasman just before the break in the 19th minute allowed SK Othman Shawal a ray of hope for an upset.
But a fine solo effort from Mohd Syukri Hashim when he ran for almost the length of the field to score the winner in the 25th minute allowed SRA Integrasi to lift the crown for the first time ever.
“The decision to strengthen the defence gave us the confidence that we can win the final,” said SRA Integrasi head coach Fakhrul Anuar.
“And when we scored the early goal, we knew that the game was ours.”
For SK Othman Shawal from Melaka, conceding two goals at the start of the game and several minutes after the break, threw whatever game plan they had out the window.
Even though they tried to make full use of the set pieces, they just couldn’t beat keeper Mohd Nazri Hashim, who made several fine saves to deny the side from Melaka.
And when Khairul Hasmir Awang’s last minute effort went off the upright in the very last minute of play, the contest was all over for SK Othman Shawal.
“We tried hard as a team but perhaps we should not have conceded that early goal,” admitted SK Othman Shawal head coach Mohd Zamri Ali.
“But there will be next year to look forward to and we know exactly what we need to do to improve our performance.”
FINAL: SRA Integrasi (Selangor) bt SK Othman Shawal (Melaka) 2-1
THIRD AND FOURTH PLACING: SK Setapak Indah (Kuala Lumpur) bt SK Senawang (Negeri Sembilan) 3-0
