It Used To Be Soccer

Setapak Win Hockey Title
Malay Mail

SETAPAK HIGH SCHOOL emerged champions of the first Federal Territories Games hockey, beating St John’s Institution B 2–0 at Pantai Stadium yesterday.

St John’s A were third after beating SMK Maxwell 2-0.

Eleven teams took part in the boys’ competition.

That was the news in the schools’ sports in the papers today.

I still remember when Setapak High was the National Schools Champion in Soccer back when I was still there. Nevermind Federal Territory or Selangor, it was National Champion.

But it seems soccer has faded away for my alma mater, just as the sport is for the whole country.

It was when names such as Santokh Singh and Khaidir Buyong were still the talk of the school.

Mr. Phillip was probably the core of it all.

We no longer have dedicated teachers such as he.

Times have changed. So has priorities.
