2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Run

I follow the Torch Run rather loosely. I find it to be a combination of public relation and commercialism.

TV3’s Bulletin Utama described the recent Run in Kuala Lumpur as one with the tightest security for a sporting event in Malaysia.

Perhaps those at TV3 haven’t lived long enough. If they did their homework, they would have found out that from the mid until late 70s, any soccer or field hockey match between Setapak High School and St. John’s Institution would almost always require the presence of the police and the Federal Reserve Unit.

Those matches almost always ended with the players having to walk away protected by the FRU’s Guard of Honor.

What those Olympic Torch bearers went through was nothing compared to what Setapak High and St. John’s athletes had to go through in those days.

😆 😆 😆

  1. that one was critical. I remember an old Setapakian shared with me that there were in 1990s that there was this driver and conductor from Len Seng requested those irrelevant passengers to alight from the bus as it become non-stop trip all the way to Leboh Ampang.

They were on a mission to send Setapakians to have a gang war with SJI back then.

    Hehe.

1990s, I guess I really miss those “good” years.

  2. salaam

I saw you have included KRU Berhad under My Setapak High blog roll, had they ever been in High School? Which year?

    Wa’alaikumussalaam,

Oo, you didn’t know? I think all those three brothers went to Setapak High School. But apparently they are not too proud of it. Perhaps it is understandable, considering the reputation of the school back then.

Only Yusry’s (born 1973) biodata at IMDB, also here, listed Setapak High as Setapak Secondary School. The rest’s biodata, Norman (born 1972) & Edry (born 1976), are not publicly detailed.

  3. Well KRU was not my favourite at any point of time

hmmm…. from Sri Petaling to Setapak Secondary School??? totally awesome (macam Ninja Turtle pulak) 😀

so Yusry must have been in Form 1 in 1985, during or after Chakravarthy’s time. Setapak High School should have been better than, of course the name was not as famous and glamorous as VI or Saint John…

    Baru lepas tahajjud ke?

  4. writing on the go before fajr prayer at mesjid…

  5. Kepada pelawat yang menggunakan nama Mafia (ayiez_xpdc),
