If you don’t have a bright future, then the court will throw you in for twenty years. Otherwise, three years is good enough.
Now, how do you define a bright future? A building designer? A national bowler?

KUALA LUMPUR: A building designer who raped a 15-year-old girl was sentenced to three years in jail as the court considered the fact that he had a bright future and did not want him to be placed together with other criminals for a long period.
“I feel that you are not a rapist and this is a mistake in your life.
“Nevertheless, the court should pass a sentence that will serve as a lesson to you and to others,” Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid said, when meting out the sentence to 21-year-old Mohd Azruddin Haiqal Kamarolzaman yesterday.
Mohd Azruddin admitted to raping his teenage girlfriend at a hotel room in Jalan Pudu here between 11pm and midnight on Sept 11.
The judge said the court considered Mohd Azruddin’s age and the fact that he had a bright future, adding that if the court jailed him for a long period of time, he would be exposed to other criminals.
Judge Emelia also considered Mohd Azruddin’s guilty plea and the fact that he and the girl were willing partners and there was no criminal force used.
Mohd Azruddin was accused under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
DPP Ooi Chean Ling prosecuted while Mohd Azruddin was unrepresented.
